High level inter ministerial dialogue on carbon trading in Tanzania

The upcoming High-Level Inter-Ministerial Dialogue on Carbon Trading is scheduled to take place on 14th July 2023 at the prestigious Johari Rotana in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This highly anticipated event will gather senior government officials, ministers, experts, and stakeholders from various sectors to discuss and explore the potential of carbon trading as a mechanism to combat climate change and drive sustainable development in Tanzania.

The dialogue aims to provide a platform for robust discussions and knowledge sharing on the design, implementation, and governance of a carbon trading system in the country. By bringing together key stakeholders from different ministries, government agencies, private sector entities, research institutions, and civil society organizations, the event seeks to foster collaboration and consensus-building towards the adoption and operationalization of a carbon trading market.

During the dialogue, participants will engage in insightful discussions on several critical aspects related to carbon trading. They will explore potential sectors and activities that can generate carbon credits, such as renewable energy projects, forest conservation initiatives, sustainable agriculture practices, and energy-efficient technologies. The discussions will also focus on establishing legal and regulatory frameworks, institutional structures, and monitoring mechanisms necessary to facilitate the functioning of a robust and transparent carbon trading market.

Moreover, the dialogue will highlight the importance of capacity building, technology transfer, and financial support for the successful implementation of carbon trading in Tanzania. Participants will discuss strategies to enhance knowledge and skills among relevant stakeholders, foster technology transfer, and attract investments in low-carbon projects. The dialogue will also provide an opportunity to explore financial mechanisms, such as climate funds and public-private partnerships, to mobilize resources for the development and operation of the carbon trading market.

Furthermore, the event will serve as a platform for Tanzania to showcase its commitment to addressing climate change and its determination to transition towards a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy. It will highlight the country’s efforts in aligning with global climate goals and the Paris Agreement, while emphasizing the role of carbon trading as a practical tool for emission reductions and sustainable development.

The High-Level Inter-Ministerial Dialogue on Carbon Trading on 14th July 2023 at Johari Rotana, Dar es Salaam, is poised to be a significant milestone in Tanzania’s climate change mitigation efforts. It is expected to generate valuable insights, foster collaboration among stakeholders, and lay the groundwork for the development of a comprehensive national strategy and action plan for carbon trading. By leveraging the potential of carbon markets, Tanzania aims to not only contribute to global climate goals but also unlock economic opportunities and promote sustainable development across sectors.
